I took the JPG, used a threshold adjustment layer to reduce the image to black and white. The bitmap was created by using Photoshop Elements. The original image was taken with my camera as a JPG from the 38" x 24" drawing. Make sure you are in the selector tool (. That would save me a ton of time instead of having to construct all elements from the drawing. It appears you may not have an image selected before opening the >Path >Trace Bitmap. On 1.1.1 it works perfectly - issue is one of the other extensions doesn't work on the newer version of InkScape. You can try adding more colors (scans) (assuming youre using. Windows 10 I converted my PNG from Windows Snipping Tool to bitmap without any possible transparency issues and the TraceBitmap Window did not want to open on version 0.9.2. Even though the raster image appears to only have 2 colors, Trace Bitmap may see more in the pixels. Youll probably have to crop the screenshot in a bitmap editor to remove window decorations. I'm trying to get just the basic lines and handwritten text converted. If you used the Stack Scans option, the new vector paths will be right on top of the raster image, and it may be showing through, and tricking you into thinking its rasterized. Re: Trace Bitmap for signature not working, help One way that Ive dealt with tracing images in PDF files is to open the file in a PDF viewer, full-screen it, zoom in to make the signature as big as you can, then take a screenshot. But because of the quality of the drawing the trace had very complex paths and was not very usable. If you click the Restore or Maximize button (the one in the middle), the dialog should go right back to wherever it was when you minimized it. You should see a small title bar with the usual Minimize, Restore or Maximize, and Close buttons. But now - in the new version - it has stopped working. Although when I traced the image using Brightness cutoff mode it succeeded. After you click to open Trace Bitmap dialog, look in bottom left corner of your screen. I have been using the trace bitmap tool in the past and never had an issue with it. I must admit that the image I made is not very sharp so Inkscape may not be able to handle it. But when I try to use Trace Bitmap with Centerline Tracing as the Detection mode Inkscape aborts with the message: "Inkscape encountered an internal error and will close now." I have had success in vectorizing images larger than what I've been trying to vectorize so I am sort of struggling to understand why my image file (which was originally 746kb shrunk down to around 136kb) keeps crashing Inkscape. The reason the tracing failed, is that you aren't tracing a bitmap image, rather you were attempting to trace a vector shape. I'm trying to convert an old (from 2020) design document to a vector drawing. Your rectangle already is in vector format, all you need to do is save it as an SVG.
